During the program students will learn: - Team Kata: Jion, Bassai Dai - Bunkai: Jion, Bassai Dai (team event) - Embu (team event) Children are strongly encouraged to come with a basic knowledge of Jion and Bassai Dai and to be able to perform the moves of these kata on their own. No previous exposure or knowledge of the bunkai or embu is required. Video examples are available, ask Sempai Jana for the link. Adult Helpers (Brown & Black) Wanted! Adult brown and black belts from all IKD Manitoba dojos are invited to attend as well, in order to gain advanced experience while also helping train the team. This is a great opportunity for advanced learning for everyone involved! The emphasis of this training, however, will be on the children. Nationals Team Selection Info Training is the initial priority, with team selection happening as Provincials approaches. At Nationals, mixed teams (boys & girls) are not allowed, and age category jumping is restricted as well. Attendance, attitude, age category, team dynamics and gender will all be considered in the final teams. All children who show up regularly, come prepared and train hard will be considered for a team. We hope to have teams in place by the New Year with an expectation that these teams will compete at the Stonewall Provincial Tournament and then continue to train hard and improve further by nationals. If children are not able to compete in one or both of these tournaments, they may train with the group, but may not be selected to a competition team. Join The Nationals Preparation Team Today Training will run weekly on Sundays between 2-4pm at Charleswood dojo. We will not train on long weekends, over Christmas or spring break. (Other dojos may host training sessions in the future depending on interest and availability). Training begins October 6 and there's lots to learn!
