Final Fantasy IX is my favorite game in the entire Final Fantasy franchise. Why has it remained my favorite in the series and why can't giants like Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy VII topple it? IX's unique in some ways, despite being an homage to past games, a return to the roots of the series and a pretty stereotypical fantasy tale on its surface. Sometimes things are just done well.
