Funk Brother, Motown drummer, and wonderful teacher Uriel Jones provided this wisdom for an interview we did together in 2009 for Modern Drummer Magazine. Yesterday was his birthday, and I played this drum solo in his honor, using as much of his grooves, fills, style, and drumming vocabulary as I could muster --- with his great advice layered on top of it. He is missed, but his legacy lives on, and I think of him every single time I make music!
