For this, the government has initiated several policy initiatives to broaden the options of feedstock i.e. raw material related to the production of ethanol. The government has approved the purchase of ethanol manufactured from 6 indigenous feedstocks, including sugarcane juice, sugar, 'B-heavy' molasses, 'C-heavy' molasses, damaged food grains, surplus rice from FCI and maize has gone. According to these policies, now state-run oil marketing companies, or OMCs, will soon start the process of making ethanol from maize, thereby expanding the supply sources for ethanol production. Apart from this, the process of procurement of surplus rice from FCI i.e. Food Corporation of India has also been started. The government believes that this step will be beneficial for the environment and will help in reducing import dependence and at the same time it will help farmers to increase their income.
