Former Prime Minister Edward Seaga has dies. Seaga passed away Tuesday, on his 89th birthday, in the United States where he had been receiving treatment for cancer. According to the Office of the Prime Minister, Seaga died at approximately 1:00 pm Jamaica time. "It is with great sadness that I inform the nation of the passing of the Most Honourable Edward Phillip George Seaga, the fifth Prime Minister of Jamaica," Prime Minister Andrew Holness said, adding "The family of Mr Seaga has asked me to express gratitude on their behalf for the many prayers and messages of comfort and support offered by the people of Jamaica." The necessary arrangements are in place for Mr Seaga’s body to be flown back to Jamaica at the earliest possible time, Holness said. Seaga served as prime minister of Jamaica between 1980 and 1989. He famously won a landslide victory over Michael Manley’s People’s National Party (PNP) in the hotly contested October 1980 General Elections on a ‘deliverance’ agenda. The JLP comfortably remained in office for nine years, as the PNP boycotted a snap election that was called in 1983. Cops Allegedly kills Wife a woman was shot dead, allegedly by her husband who is said to be a police officer, at their home in Tower Isle, St Mary on Tuesday morning. Reports reaching are that residents heard the couple arguing before the sound of gunshots rang out. The police were alerted and the body of the woman was reportedly found inside the house. Her husband was also found at the premises and detained. Martin Henry Collapses and dies noted educator and public commentator Martin Henry has died. Henry reportedly collapsed Tuesday evening, moments after leaving the TVJ studios, where he commented on the passing of former Prime Minister Edward Seaga passing during the television station's Prime Time News segment. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Henry, 61, was a long-serving columnist for The Gleaner newspaper.
