New announcements and major milestones were reached from some cruise lines. If you missed all of the developments, we have you covered. Here is a recap of all the cruise updates for the past week with our Cruise News for August 23rd edition. If you enjoy the video, please make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP! Carnival Cruise Line announced the name of its second Excel-class ship this week. In a social media campaign that teased out letters of the name, we finally learned on Friday that the new ship will be Carnival Celebration. The first ship in this class, Mardi Gras, is set to embark on February 6th 2021, after two delays in construction. The new Carnival Celebration is slated for a November 2022 maiden voyage. Will you be onboard this new ship? In more happy cruise news, MSC Cruises had two major updates. MSC Grandiosa successfully completed the line's first cruise since the suspension of cruising that started back in March of this year. The seven-night Mediterranean cruise was open to guest from 26 European countries. The sailing was the first to implement the line's new health and safety protocols, which include a rapid COVID-19 test before boarding. Also, the cruise line floated out its third Seaside-class ship. The MSC Seashore will debut in the summer of 2021. The cruise line is enhancing 65% of this ship to make it distinct from the previous vessels, MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview. Updates are being made to the indoor pool, the outdoor aft pool, as well as onboard restaurants and the MSC Yacht Club. We can’t wait to try out the ship when it debuts in Miami next November. Finally, it wouldn’t be a cruise update lately if there wasn’t some potentially bad news. The rumors swirled back to life again this week that Royal Caribbean’s Empress of the Seas had been sold. A global shipping industry website broke the report, citing an unnamed source familiar with the matter. Royal Caribbean Group denies the ship has been sold. Still, we wouldn’t be surprised if these latest rumors turn out to be true.
