Start off by asking what is your customer's biggest fear or frustration right now. What's your biggest fear or frustration. Next, ask yourself this question: What is your customer embarrassed to admit even to themselves? What are they embarrassed to admit even to themselves? And again we're just scratching the surface, just the beginning right now. Going to delve more in later. Here's another one. What's the conversation that's going on in their head? What's the conversation that's going on in their head? I'm going to give you a hint about something that's to come and you want to write this word down. Irrational, irrational; it's one of the most important concepts in marketing, irrational. Why, because most of the thoughts that we have going in our heads are rational. Most of the things that are going through the customer's heads are irrational. So, to grow your business you'll need to increase the number of customers you attract. One danger is losing touch with the fact that each customer is an individual and wants to connect with another individual, not a business. Individuals want to connect with individuals, not with businesses. In order to communicate powerfully and directly with the masses, you must first figure out what all of your customers have in common so you can use this as a customer template for one-to-one dialogs and communication. So, what I'd like you to do, is we're going to spend maybe five or seven minutes on this exercise, in silence; and I want you to fill in what are the common fears, frustrations, pain, the urgency that your prospect is experiencing? What are some of the wants and aspirations that they want. By the way, this is how I start out when I'm creating a marketing campaign. What are their common experiences or what's their common reality? What are their common irrational fears and fantasies? And then name and describe your avatar to bring them to life. So here's what I want you to do: Fill in one thing in each box for now, one thing. One fear, frustration, pain, urgency. One want and aspiration. One common experience. One common irrational fear or fantasy. So, one of each of those four. Quickly, again, five or seven words. You know what it is. So, just write the words and it'll trigger in your mind. Next, name and describe your avatar to bring your avatar to life. Is that making sense to you? I want you to give him a name and then describe them a little bit, tell me about them. Who are they, where do they live, what do they do for work that could be a representative? Tell me a little about them.
