Ecotasia's video: The Coral Pink Sand Dune Tiger Beetle: Endangered Insect

Coral Pink Sand Dunes are beautiful Jurassic aged sand dunes in Southern Utah. Sand Dunes are a great place to get down and look closely. Tracks cross the shifting sands, made by Phantom Creatures. It is a harsh ecosystem and special animals and plants are adapted to survive among the dunes. This is the realm of beetles. One very special beetle dashes across the dunes, leaving only the faintest track. This is the Coral pink sand dune tiger beetle, and it is only found here in a mere 20% of this state park. Spending much of its life developing as a larvae underground, usually 2 to three years, it is only visible from Mid-april to july, when it scampers and flies about, scavenging dead insects or running down flies. This special little beetle is critically imperiled with perhaps 2000 alive, but two conservation areas keep offroad vehicles from destroying their sensitive habitat.
