Navagraha Informations about the Nine Planets Navagraha means nine astronomical objects namely 1 Surya (The Sun) 2 Chandra (The Moon) 3 Budha (Mercury) 4 Shukra (Venus) 5 Mangala (Mars) 6 Guru (Jupiter) 7 Shani (Saturn) 8 Rahu (Lunar ascending node) 9 Ketu (Lunar descending node) 1 Surya (The Sun) Surya is considered as gem of sky, he is the removal of darkness. He is the symbol of Knowledge. His grace gives good for all lives in the earth. He holds lotus in both the hands and rides a chariot pulled by 7 horses (7 horses represents the 7 music categories of Sanskrit text - Gayatri, Brihati, Ushnih, Jagati, Trishtubha, Anushtubha and Pankti). Sunday is dedicated to Surya. 2 Chandra (The Moon) Moon represents beauty, he is the father of planet mercury. His descendants represents Chandra – vamsa (the kings of the epic Mahabharata). Monday is dedicated day to worship the moon god. He holds a club and a rope in his two hands. 3 Budha (Mercury) Budha rides in a lion carrying club and a shield in his hands. Wednesday is the correct day to worship him. His grace will benefit people to become kind and clever mind. 4 Shukra (Venus) Venus is the guru of all asuras. He divides his body into two halves, one to teach devas and other to teach asuras. Friday is the day to worship Shukra. If Shukra’s grace is obtained, a person will have lots of good luck in his life. 5 Mangala (Mars) Mangala is the god of war. He has four hands holding Trisulam, Mace, Lotus ans Spear. He is son of Lord Shiva and Bhumi Devi (Earth). Tuesday is the best day to pray him. 6 Guru (Jupiter) Jupiter uses a elephant or a eight white horses as a mount to travel. Thursday is dedicated to him. He is the teacher for the devas. 7 Shani (Saturn) He represents bad luck, but however after his period (7 and a half year) is over, Shani is responsible to give a good luck to the person. Saturday is the best day to pray to Shani. 8 Rahu (Lunar ascending node) Rahu is the dark shadow and does not associated with real objects. He gives bad thinking, cruel behavior to humans during his period. He is the enemy of moon and the sun. 9 Ketu (Lunar descending node) Ketu is also a homeless dark object. Ketu is considered as good and bad. He may give strong imagination power which may result in both good or bad.
