The first is an interactive livestream conversation titled Reclaiming the Body as Altar and the Creation of New Myths which will happen on Monday May 11, 2020 from 5:30pm - 6:30pm PST on the Vincent Price Art Museum's Instagram account, which can be found at: https://www.instagram.com/vpam_arts/ Yunuen and Edgar will discuss their connection to one another and their shared paths as well as discuss projects they have worked on together that connect to the title's themes and how these themes weave into their research in anthropology, mental health, spirituality, metaphysics, indigenous epistemologies, and other realms. They also share about their upcoming experiential workshop titled Navigating the Vortex which will be taking place online via Zoom on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm PST For more information and to register, please go here: https://forms.gle/xXSgmRcxtbQ5eFUT9 In this workshop attendees will be able to have a direct and embodied experience of exploring a concept of their choosing. Yunuen and Edgar will be providing prompts and guidance to support attendees in choosing a concept to embody. After one is chosen, the group will move into a Huarache Constellation (more information below) and collectively explore our concepts through movement, meditative awareness, and embodied play. The group will have time to share their experiences and weave a collective narrative together of our shared Constellation. The Huarache Constellation is a collective self-healing and medium methodology developed by Yunuen Rhi at PAM performance art residency in Los Angeles (LA) in November of 2017. The dynamic is inspired by Maria Sabina’s Poetics, Mazateca-Mexican priestess of the mushrooms, and by Family Constellation Work, activated through a movement group interrelation. Participants will get to work deeply and explore through movement, collective interaction and medicine work an idea or a character they choose to explore and understand from their studies or life experience. Since its birth, this work has deeply touched thirteen groups in LA., Berlin and Hong Kong. Yunuen Rhi's Bio: We are a two-spirit performance artist, anthropologist, martial art instructor and healer. Our roots are in Mexico, the United States, and Korea. We have cultivated ourselves in western, eastern, native medicine pathways and practices as a way to deepen the understanding of “selves.” Our performance work incorporates ritual and psychomagic elements. Our performance interest lie in social practice as a way to create effective bridges between performance and community needs in a decolonial setting. Born in East Los Angeles in 1983, Frías received dual BA degrees in Psychology and Studio Art from the University of California, Riverside. In 2013, they received an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon, with an emphasis on Interpersonal Neurobiology and Somatic Psychotherapy.
