Edits by Lyra's video: Me My Girls Multifandom Feminism

@Me & My Girls | Multifandom (Feminism)
As I've been getting older, I've become more and more aware of social issues. One that's particularly close to my heart is sexism as I've been blessed with a pair of X chromosomes so obviously I feel more affected by that. When I was very very young I clearly remember thinking that both sexes were equal. However, I quickly learned that it wasn't the case. I can't say exactly when. Maybe it was when I was 11, walking home from my first day in middle school and being fake-chased by two young boys joking that they were gonna rape me if I didn't run fast enough. But maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was during my first year in high school then, waiting alone at a bus stop and feeling obligated to kiss the older man on the cheek because we had been making conversation and he asked for a kiss goodbye. Maybe it was one of those times when I felt a hand on my butt but couldn't be certain someone had intentionally put it there, because it's crowded anyway, so why care? Maybe it was that time I asked the bus driver for a ticket and he mimicked my high-pitched voice in his answer? Maybe it was the day I left home with a bit of skin showing, to got get groceries just two blocks away, and got hollered at not once, not twice but three times in a row? Be it honking, whistling or talking about my thighs, none of it was welcome. Maybe it was every time that I wasn't taken seriously. Maybe it was every time that I opened my internet browser looking for news on my favorite shows and being greeted by pop-ups reminding me that girls' mouths are for penises and hair is for pulling. Or maybe it was just a week ago when my future employer made it clear that I would be wearing heels because it makes women look curvier and "it's been proven to boost sells". Either way, I let out my frustration into this video. But, surprisingly enough, it's still very upbeat and positive. :) I looked at the vidding community on youtube... There are empowering, badass fanvids out there but - don't take this the wrong way if you've made multifemale videos yourself - they're still very disconnected with the reality of it. So that's what this is. :) THIS VIDEO IS NOT HATING ON MEN: I tried to make that clear by including a quote from The Borgias. "Who should we hate then? Men?" "No, my love. It's in our nature to love them. But we should protect ourselves against them." Everytime that I'm using footage with men in this video and opposing that to the women defending themselves/answering back, I am not attacking the men themselves. I am only trying to adress their words and their actions. I even used some of my favorite characters (Dean Winchester, from Supernatural) as examples because everyone and anyone can be misguided. I know that not all men do this. But enough men do it that it's a problem. It's worth noting that women are not immune to this. They too can internalize and reinforce sexist ideas. So long story short: this is just about sexism, and how hurtful it can be. * VIDEO FEATURED AT: - June 16-18th 2017: VidUKon in Cardiff, Wales. - Dec 1rst 2018: SqueeCon in New Haven, CT, USA. - Feb 09th 2019: Min-screening & Celebration of the Fandom Life at the Framingham library, MA, USA. - March 22-24th 2019: RevelCon30 in Houston, Texas, USA.
