@Eichmann trial - Session No. 96
Session no. 96 13/07/1961 The continuation of the cross examination of The Accused by the Attorney General for the prosecution. - His attitude towards the extermination of the Jews during the time that he was reading his memoirs to Sassen was not what he insisted on in the previous session being the worst crime committed by mankind but rather, in 1957 he expressed regret that the Jews in Hungary remained alive and that they had successfully annihilated the enemy, according to Sassen. - During his interrogation by Police said that Dannecker, Wisliceny, Brunner Guenther & Richter were directed by himself in all activities in the department with the exception of foreign missions. - Said in his interrogation that they had to report their foreign missions to him, which he confirms yet they were not under his supervision. - T/400, a memorandum by Dannecker stating that the authority of The Accused was the recognized authority because consultations were always carried out his office, is deemed as utterly incorrect by The Accused. - Is quoted from the Sassen Document as being the one who was the commanding authority over all of the people posted abroad, he is unable to confirm these affairs, and his task was to obliviate difficulties, T/252 confirms the extent of this work of The Accused. - The people present at the meetings in his office regarding Jewish affairs were Dannecker, Wisliceny & Richter as far as he remembers, they would be chaired by The Accused & all items on an agenda discussed. - Some of the problems discussed were deportation problems, T/347, the wearing of identity signs for the Jews & its purpose and train departure charts. - The date of the beginning of the mass murders & dates of executions he had witnessed from the winter of 1941-1942, he denies even knowing about the extermination before this date. - Permission was given by Heydrich for the final solution of 150-250,000 Jews this request was dictated by Eichmann, Globocnik always requested his permission in writing, & Eichmann always had to report the implementation. - Believes that the extermination began straight after the Wannsee Conference in the winter of 1942 & deportations from the occupied Western territories March 1942. - His first visit was just to see the extermination, and on his second visit he brought with him the written order of Hitler to exterminate the Jews.
