Session no. 95 12/07/1961 Continuation of the 95th session of the trial. Continuation of the cross examination of The Accused by the Attorney General for the Prosecution. 1. Insists upon his oath of telling the whole truth & nothing but the truth after examining himself every night in his cell, but after the death of Hitler, he believes he is released from his oath of loyalty, seeing the violation of an oath as the worst crime a man can perpetrate. 2. Had he been responsible for the crime of the extermination of the Jews he claims that he would have shot himself. 3. The people engaged with the extermination of the Jews were unhappy and he pitied and commiserated with Hoess with his work at Auschwitz, yet did not see him as a criminal and did not believe he could have done that work himself. 4. Sees the extermination of the Jews as one of the most hideous crimes in the history of mankind, as something illegal and wished that he had never had to play the small part that he did play, which was sufficiently bad enough, insisting he had nothing to do with the physical extermination. 5. The Sassen Document shows that The Accused never even tried to get transfer but he denies that these were his words to Sassen, even though these parts had been read and checked by him. 6. Claims that the transcripts of the Sassen Document were full of inaccuracies & falsehoods and that one cannot possibly rely on them, therefore according the agreement made, the only passages that are reliable are the ones signed by himself at the bottom of each page.
