In the hall there was a beautiful old Steinway grand which I occupied quite a bit. Because of the peaceful atmosphere I discovered a way of playing that was new to me: To just let it flow and to observe what appears in the moment. Back home I kept playing that way without thinking about what to do with all the melodies that kind of flew through me. They just came and disappeared. Recently I discovered the ambient musician Michiru Aoyama. A few years ago he had set up a rule for himself: to release everything he makes. I got in touch with him and we chatted briefly about his process. How inspiring! This was the perfect way for me to put some use to my little piano moments. To share them with others. So I started recording them. And still do. As soon as a bunch of pieces are finished I’d compile them into little albums and release them. Several are already out there by now, more will follow. I have created a play list on Spotify that will grow as I add new ones. I don’t know yet for how long I’ll keep doing it. Michiru says, to him it’s like brushing his teeth.
