April Fools! The joke is that Koishi was hiding on April 1st and waited to give you this video until now. hahaha This is "Last Remote", the Extra Stage theme from Touhou 11: Subterranean Animism. Probably one of my favorite Touhou games, and the stage theme of one of my favorite characters, Koishi Komeiji. There's just so much to talk about with Koishi; can you even imagine being in her position? First people ostracized her because of her mind-reading Satori's Third Eye, so she willingly closed it, getting rid of her ability, but also sealing away her own consciousness. Now she drifts from place to place, guided only by her own subconscious, unable to be seen by anyone or interact with anybody (most of the time). Despite...certain infamous fan depictions of her (*cough* fishing rods *cough*), I've always found Koishi to be more of a tragic character than a scary one. And while "Hartmann's Youkai Girl", her battle theme, reflects her "scary" aspect, I think "Last Remote" really captures that sadness in its melancholy tone. The rushing notes and fast notes at the beginning sweep you away as if to symbolize how Koishi is borne from place to place against her own conscious will. Then the quiet piano section seeming to reflect Koishi's tragic aspect, and back into the rushing notes from the beginning. Finally, that triumphant trumpet section near the end lifts the tone up somewhat as if to say that all is not lost for Koishi. Koishi aside, this was a surprisingly easy song to arrange. It's almost like the song was made for the VCR6 chip. I only had to leave out one or two tracks when writing the arrangement, and they were just background strings, not melodies. All in all, it came together quite nicely. From now on, if nothing else, you can at least expect one Touhou remix per month. They seem to be the only videos to get views and likes anyway...
