Alex Hasbún renunció a su cargo como viceministro ad-honorem de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales, el 16 de octubre de 2020. El Acuerdo Ejecutivo 400, en el que el presidente Nayib Bukele acepta su renuncia, fue publicado en el tomo 429, colocado en el sitio web del Diario oficial hasta este 15 de enero de 2021. Hasbún es médico veterinario zootecnista de la Universidad Salvadoreña Alberto Masferrer. Fue presidente y director ejecutivo de la Fundación Zoológica de El Salvador (FUNZEL) entre 2008 y 2013 y se ha desempeñado como consultor independiente desde 2013.
