For more than 40 years, Michael D. Brown has been involved in many local and national political campaigns – including seven Democratic presidential campaigns. Senator Brown has been involved in the past 11 consecutive Democratic National Conventions including being a Barack Obama superdelegate in 2008 and 2012, and a Hillary Clinton super-delegate in 2016. Brown was reelected with 83% of the vote in November 2018. In addition, he was on the staff of the Democratic National Committee and was a community activist, an elected commissioner and an elected delegate to the Ward Three Democrats. He is an experienced campaigner who has worked on more than 30 campaigns and has trained candidates, receiving an award for excellence as a trainer in 2009. Brown is a graduate of the University of Maryland, and has a BA in Government and Politics and an MA in Public Policy. In 2008, Barack Obama said, “Even without a vote, Senator Brown has always been a strong advocate for the rights of DC residents.” In 2014, Senator Brown started an internet radio show, Shadow Politics, which received more than 400,000 hits online last year. Brown was also the president and founder of Horizon Communications Corporation, which provided direct mail services to nonprofit and political organizations for more than 25 years. His clients included the National Democratic Party, all 50 Democratic State Committees and many national political candidates. He also ran the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a top national public interest group in Washington, DC when he was only 29 years old.
