http://www.spiritualexcellence.com/blog/on-spiritual-excellence/ The term spiritual excellence is one which is very specific, and refers to the ultimate goal of the spiritual path and of religion itself: To attain a state of transcendent presence in which an individual is continually conscious of the immanence of God. In this video, I explain the origin of this term which dates back to what is know as the Hadith of Jibril, the Tradition of Gabriel that recounts an instance where the archangel visits the Prophet Muhammad (S) and explains the Three Stages of Islam: Islam, iman and ultimately ihsan (surrender, belief and spiritual excellence, respectively). Spiritual excellence then is the goal of the muslim, he or she who has embraced the spiritual path of surrender. And this state is indicative of a state of consciousness where one has transcended the mind and has become rooted in the heart. In a hadith qudsi, a holy tradition, the Prophet relates that "God has said, 'Neither the heavens nor the earth can contain Me, save the heart of a believer.'" To fully realize our heart potential thus is the culmination of divine will and the divine destiny of humankind.
