Emily Mackey Art's video: Ominous Carnival Painting Oil painting time lapse

I am very excited about how this oil painting turned out. I've always been drawn to images that have a vaguely forbidding or mysterious vibe to them, and I've been wanting to incorporate my interest in things that are a little bit eerie to my work, but in a beautiful and captivating way. I always feel a strange pull to kind of creepy things that are juxtaposed by intent to be light hearted and fun, like carnivals and clowns. Thats where the inspiration of this painting came from. What can I say. I love horror. And spooky scary paintings speak make me feel weird in a good way. This speedpaint / painting timelapse shows my process of painting from start to finish. I began by blocking in the colors of my cloud with acrylic paints first. Since acrylic paints dry so fast I like to use it as a base layer for color when painting with oils. That way I can immediately get started on my painting without having to wait for a first layer of oils to dry. So after my acrylic layer I went in with oils to paint my cloud. I finished that up a long time ago but only recently did I pick this painting back up to finish it by adding the ferris wheel. I love doing personal work like this that I'm proud of. I think in 2020 I'm going to make it my goal to continue to pursue making things that I really really like. and not just producing continuously to stay relevant. Thanks for hanging with me!
