I am obsessed with sketchbooks! I feel that the practice of using a sketchbook to let your little brain express itself is SO HEALTHY for artists of all kinds! Whether you sketch with pencil, or draw with markers, or like to paint with watercolors or acrylics or gouache, sketchbooks are the place to let your creative side run wild with no boundaries, other than the edges of your paper. However, a lot of people make their own fences for their sketchbooks. They have ideas of what they should and shouldn't do in them and end up feeling like creating in a sketchbook is a stressful experience. I wan't every artist to understand that your sketchbook is not a perfect place full of masterpieces. It's a place for you to make a mess and create things that might be ugly and explore things you've never tried before! Sketchbooks are not the place to limit ourselves. And I think letting go of this idea that our sketchbook needs to look nice is one of the healthiest things for our art and will help us develop into the amazing artists we can be!
