Indian Olympic Association decided not to send Indian Football Team to the Asian Games which will be hosted in China later this year. The situation of Indian football was not always critical like this. There was a time, when we were observing the golden period of football in India. From the beginning, from the golden period of football in India, to why IOA decided not to send Indian Football contingent to the Asian Games. Let me tell you the complete story in this video. Currently, 211 countries and territories are actively participating in the game of football. And there are more than 3.5 Billion fans of football in the world. Half of the world loves this sport. The first football match in India was played in the year 1802 in Bombay between Island and Military. In the year 1963 the Coach and Manager of the Indian Football team Syed Abdul Rahim died. And this was a major loss for the Indian Football team. Soon after 1963, many legendary players like, Naval D'Souza, Subimal Chunni Goswami, Jarnail Singh Dhillon, PK Banerjee, Peter Thangaraj, Shailendra Nath Manna, they took retirement. All these players took Indian football to its peak. And the complete downfall was fueled by The 1983 Cricket World Cup. The popularity of Cricket in India reached such an extent that it destroyed not only Hockey but Football as well. When India won the 1983 Cricket World Cup. The Interest of the Indians, Sponsors and the full focus of the Indian Government was provided to cricket. And in some way or the other Hockey, Football and all other sports shifted to a back burner. The next reason behind the downfall of Indian football is Politics. Internal Politics contributed negatively to Indian football. The next big reason is the lack of funds. AIFF has formed a vision.
