Highest altitude airport: Daocheng Yading Airport, Tibet, China Commissioned in September 2013 and immediately replacing Qamdo Bamda as new highest elevated airport in the world at 4,411 meter (14,472 feet). Its terminal looks like flying saucer by the way. 6. Tallest air traffic control (ATC) tower: Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Bangkok, Thailand Start operating in 2005, Suvarnabumi replacing an aging Don Mueang as Thailand's capital airport. Longest runway: Qamdo Bamda Airport, Tibet, China Located at more than 14,000 feet above sea level, the thin atmosphere requires aircraft to have higher takeoff speed for sufficient lift force. That's why the 5,500 meter (18,045 ft) long runaway is necessary, which is the longest runaway in the world by the way. 9. Shortest runway: Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport, Saba Island, Netherlands Located in volcanic carribean island, flat terrain is very limited. Hence an extreme 400 meter (1,312 ft) runaway with sea at both end of track. Doesn't really matter though because STOL class airplanes and helicopters would be suffice for serving remote island for tourism industry.
