Epilepsy Foundation's video: Care Cure 2020

@Care & Cure 2020
MISSION We fulfill our mission by leading the fight to END EPILEPSY. We dedicate the CARE AND CURE Benefit to thousands of children with epilepsy who urgently need specialty care while we accelerate research for cures. OUR GOAL Our ultimate goal is no child diagnosed with epilepsy. Until then your support ensures that children with epilepsy can get specialty care and that epilepsy research thrives in our region — giving children and their families ever greater hope for cures. Since inception, the Care and Cure Benefit has raised over $12 million to support: -30+ Care and Cure Fellows Trained -3 Permanent Training Fellowships -1 New Faculty Position in Epilepsy -3 Pediatric Dietary Therapy Programs -1 Clinic for the Underserved -2 Focused Research Projects -Advocacy and Helpline for Families Our Care and Cure Fellow Training Partners and Epilepsy Centers include: -University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Mattel -Children’s Hospital, California -Los Angeles County and University of Southern -California (USC) Medical Center, California -Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, California -Children’s Hospital of Orange County, California -University of California Irvine Medical Center, California -University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, California -Jackson Memorial Hospital, Florida OTHER FACTS The epilepsies affected almost 3 million people in the USA, and 160,000 of them live in our region. There are more people with epilepsy than the number of people with cerebal palsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease — combined. About 50,000 people die each year from seizures and seizure related causes. That’s more than the number of deaths due to breast cancer. Uncontrolled seizures can damage the developing brain and early diagnosis and treatment are critical. Federal research funding is sorely inadequate. To give you a comparison, what the NIH allocated to research amounts to about $59 per person with epilepsy compared to $280 per person with MS.
