Erik Dalton's video: Testing Big Toe and Foot Mobility

@Testing Big Toe and Foot Mobility
A fundamental feature of the foot often missed in our assessments is first-toe mobility, specifically the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint. The first MTP joint should be able to extend as much as 65 degrees, but many people lack full range of motion due to osteoarthritis or injury. Limited MTP dorsiflexion may not stop our clients from running around, but the lack of big-toe mobility means the body is forced to compensate further up the kinetic chain. By altering the foot’s natural movement patterns, limited MTP dorsiflexion can lead to “mysterious” knee or hip pain and an unstable gait. Addressing big toe mobility with the Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques in these videos should give you a good idea as to how your client's foot system works or why it is hindered. It's important to address these issues early on, as the problem can persist and move further up the body causing problems and pain in the ankles, knees, hips, and low back. ▶︎ Read more on Big Toe Kink In The Kinetic Chain: https://erikdalton.com/blog/big-toe-kink-in-the-kinetic-chain/ Hope you enjoyed this video and thanks for watching!!
