Leonard Cohen wrote "Hallelujah" in 1984, and it has been covered by many, many artists, including Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright (in the movie "Shrek"), John Cale, Allison Crowe, k.d. lang, Alexandra Burke, Bob Dylan, Regina Spektor, Willie Nelson, and Bono. When my label, Cleopatra Records, asked me to cover this song for my "Harp Town" album, I thought, "What could I possibly do with it that hasn't been done already?"
