The game was later ported to the Dreamcast console and the Game Boy Color. It is the sequel to 1997's Grand Theft Auto. The PC and Dreamcast versions of GTA2 are both rated M by the ESRB. The language and violence were toned down for the PlayStation and Game Boy Color versions which received a T rating. Rockstar now offers the PC version as registerware for free download at their website with free subscription to their mailing list. GTA2 was preceded by the original Grand Theft Auto and ultimately succeeded by Grand Theft Auto III. The game was made available on Steam on January 4, 2008, however it can only be purchased as part of a collection. Se sitúa temporalmente cerca del futuro (según la línea argumental de Grand Theft Auto, el juego se sitúa en el año 2013) en una ciudad llamada Anywhere City, con 3 áreas. El objetivo en cada una de las tres áreas es obtener el suficiente dinero para escapar y pasar a la siguiente. La libertad de acción de la saga sigue patente en éste juego, puesto que para conseguir el objetivo, se puede realizar cualquier tarea que dé dinero: robar coches, explotarlos, chocarlos, armarlos, atropellar personas, asesinarlas, quemarlas, etc. Sin embargo, lo normal para ganar grandes cantidades de dinero es realizar misiones para las Bandas. Cada vez que se completa una misión para una determinada banda, el multiplicador de dinero sube una unidad, y este modificador influye en todo el dinero que se recibe por cualquier acción.
