ベネズエラの国民音楽といわれるホローポのリズムのこの曲は、南西部平原地方（リャノ）の民謡形式であるパハリージョの型（Dm-Gm-A7循環）にもとづいています。主人公の乙女は、国民文学といわれるロムロ・ガジェゴス作『ドニャ・バルバラ』の登場人物マリセラをモデルにしていると言われています。平原地方のバンドーラ（南米式マンドリン）の音色もお楽しみください。
