After founding the Compagnie de pulpe Ouiatchouan in 1901, the construction of a pulp mill begins. Pulp production begins in 1902. In the early 1920s, the village is known for its modern conveniences and is the envy of the surrounding communities. However, the company faces added troubles from the fact that its plants produce only pulp, not paper. Production is suspended permanently on August 13, 1927.
