Evin Gualberto's video: Trae Young - Foul Drawing

@Trae Young - Foul Drawing
Trae Young. 2020 NBA All-Star. 2019 All-Rookie First Team. Young followed up what was a statistically impressive first season (19.1 points and 8.1 assists per game) by averaging 29.6 points per game (fourth best in the league, just points above reigning and back-to-back MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo) on 43.7% shooting from the field, 36.1% from 3 (averaging NINE AND A HALF THREE ATTEMPTS PER GAME) while shooting 86.0% from the line on 9.3 attempts per game. He also averaged 9.3 assists per game - which was good for second in the league behind LeBron James. Trae made the second most free throws (481) in the league until the hiatus in play - second only to James Harden (692). He attempted 559 free throws this season, fourth best in the league. Here were the league leaders in the FT attempts: James Harden - 800 Giannis Antetokounmpo - 629 Luka Doncic - 562 Trae Young - 559 Jimmy Butler - 525 Anthony Davis - 525 There are two statistics I wanted to bring to your attention per Cleaning the Glass: SFLD - what percentage of a player’s shot attempts was he fouled on. FFLD - how many non-shooting fouls (fouls on the floor) did the player draw per team play. Trae Young - SFLD% 14.2 FFLD% 4.5 Giannis Antetokounmpo - SFLD% 20.9 FFLD% 4.3 Luka Doncic - SFLD% 17.5 FFLD% 4.1 Chris Paul - SFLD% 4.3 FFLD% 3.9 Damian Lillard - SFLD% 11.3 FFLD% 3.7 James Harden - SFLD% 18.5 FFLD% 3.2 LeBron James - SFLD% 12.9 FFLD% 2.5 For what it’s worth - this tells me that Trae draws A LOT of fouls. If you look at those numbers, in terms of shooting fouls drawn, he falls in between the likes of James Harden and LeBron James, but he’s ranks as the BEST among these players at drawing non-shooting fouls. You’ll be able to see in the video a few of these examples, but for the most part, I did remove a lot of fouls on the floor. Getting your team in the bonus early puts a lot of pressure on the defense. There are only a MINIMAL number of and1s. This doesn't account for 100% of what Trae does to draw fouls but it's a good example of what to watch for instead of JUST watching highlights.
