Marc Gasol. 3x NBA All-Star. 2013 Defensive Player of the Year. All-NBA First Team in 2015, All-NBA Second Team in 2013. 2x Olympic Silver Medalist (2008 in Beijing, 2012 in London). FIBA World Championship Gold Medalist (2006 in Japan). 2x EuroBasket Gold Medalist (2009 in Poland, 2011 in Lithuania). Marc and his myriad more accolades indicate the ever-evolving nature of his game. This past season, he averaged a career-best in both scoring and assists, while expanding his game to well beyond the 3 point line (he attempted 268 3 pointers (and made 104 of them) compared to the 66 combined attempts throughout the rest of his career). Marc is a 7 footer who can bang and bruise, but it is his vibrant vision that has victimized the league. He trailed only Al Horford (5.0 assists per game) and Nikola Jokic (4.9 apg) in terms of assists generated by centers (Marc had 4.6), but was responsible for manufacturing more offense than either of the two (Marc averaged 19.5 points per game versus Horford’s 14.0 ppg and Jokic’s 16.7 ppg). The point being that Big Spain has big game, and he gets it done for his Griz. Marc is a visionary; his vision is scary. He’s part of a revolution, littering the league with these tall and talented players that can thrive in the post, shoot the 3, spread the floor, create for others, and get to the basket off the bounce. Oh, and by the way, he can defend a little bit. At least that’s why he earned a Defensive Player of the Year award over LeBron James during the 4-time MVP’s single best defensive campaign. I’m going to level with you if you’ve read this far. I didn’t know what to cut or even how to go about it, because I love watching Marc’s game to the point where I put everything together and it was about 17 minutes long. So, there is a certain flow to some parts, while others seem a little disjointed, and that’s because I felt that 17 was just a little too long.
