Evin Gualberto's video: Karl-Anthony Towns - Point Center

Karl-Anthony Towns. 2018 All-NBA Third Team. 2x NBA All-Star. 2016 NBA Rookie of the Year. 2019-20 was a career best year for KAT. In addition to 10.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.6 blocks, he averaged 26.5 points per game on 50.8% shooting from the field, 41.2% from deep ON 7.9 THREE POINT ATTEMPTS PER GAME, and 79.6% from the line. A 7 footer shooting 51/41/80 is pretty unreal especially when you consider that he shot 38% on 1.7 pull-up 3’s a game. Much has been made of his defensive shortcomings but NOT NEARLY enough can be made of how unique he is offensively. The term “unicorn” gets thrown around a lot in the league, but offensively, Towns might truly be a unicorn. At his height, with his handle, capable of making great decisions at a very high level, with his ability to space the floor, the sky is the limit for what KAT can do to opposing defenses. I talk about KAT and how he can most effectively be deployed in the preview pod I did with Samson Folk (link below) so I won’t retread those points BUT I would just like to hit on my favorite action I saw while going through last year’s film: invert PnR. The Wolves can be incredibly successful running inverted pick and roll where Towns is tasked with being the ball handler. Screen with a small? KAT is shooting right over or going straight to the post. Go under? Triple. Aggressively double/blitz him? He’s making the right play and making you pay. I’d like to take a moment to just say that KAT has suffered a tremendous amount of loss in 2020 and I cannot imagine how hard it must be for him. My condolences to KAT and his family.
