After passing the Round Green Deer Farm I headed toward my first port of call at Woods which contains two historic objects of note. 01. The Rockley Blast Furnace can be found at the following location :- https://goo.gl/maps/bmL7VTteQG4Yppr89 Built between 1698 and 1704, the furnace formed part of a trade syndicate in Yorkshire centered on the Spencers of Cannon Hall. It operated until 1741 with Charcoal as fuel. It is thought that the furnace operated again around 1790, using coke fuel, to produce gun casting. Rockley Furnace made Cast Iron in the eighteenth century, using ores mined in the same valley and charcoal from the surrounding woodlands near to and 02. The Rockley Engine House can be found at the following location :- https://goo.gl/maps/6xwSvEfBqARxqLYG9 The Engine House was constructed in 1813 and it operated for a total of 14 years before the owners declared bankruptcy. In 1827 the Newcomen Steam Engine housed here was then sent to Rockley Engine House was then abandoned. Both the Engine House and Blast Furnace are within close proximity to each other.
