@Gmail for Android Now Offers a Way to Select a Batch of 50 Emails at a Time
A new server-side update to the Gmail application for Android allows you to select a collection of 50 emails at a time now. ~~~~~ Hi! Just about every feature that we would need on the go can be found in the Android app for Gmail. However, one highly requested feature that has been missing was a way to select a batch of emails all at once. Before the recent server-side update, we had to manually select emails one at a time in order to perform mass actions like deleting them all at once. . .or archiving them with a single tap. But now, thanks to a new update that is currently being rolled out, we have the ability to select batches of 50 emails at a time using the Gmail application for Android. To do this, we first need to select at least one email within the app. This can be done with a long-press gesture on the text of the subject or email itself. Or we can perform a simple tap on the profile card that appears next to the email. Either way, we need to select an email from within the Gmail application to reveal the new Select All box. When this update has been made available for your specific device, you will begin to see this new option at the top of the list here. Sadly, even though it is currently labeled Select All, the Gmail application only allows you to select batches of 50 emails at a time. Maybe we will see Google rename this feature to Batch Select or Select 50 or something else that is more accurate than Select All. I assume the feature was added in this way as there is a Select All option in the web version of Gmail. And it too, will only allow you to select a limited number of emails on the first attempt. The web version of Gmail does have a second "select all" option that really will highlight every email in your inbox. . .but so far this has not made its way to the Android application. I assume Google prefers it to be this way since the Android app is not meant to be the main way to access your Gmail account. And there are a number of features we can find in the web version that still has not made its way to the app. Now, if you don't see this Select All option yet, that's okay. I just read an article on the Verge and the writer doesn't have the feature on their Pixel device yet either. I'm seeing it on my Google Pixel 7 Pro and the Galaxy S23 that I have here. So like many server-side updates that Google rolls out to the Android community, you will need to wait for your device to be included in the rollout before you are able to see the feature. It feels strange that it took Google this long to add the feature to the Gmail Android application, but I'm happy to see that at least a comparable feature has been added. And maybe we will see the full feature added in a future update. Step by Step Tutorial ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Intro [00:00] 2.
