@Marginal Wharf, Bermuda - THEN AND NOW by explodinghousefilms@logic bm
Made in the style of a forties newsreel this twelve minute movie tells the story of Marginal Wharf in St. David Island, Bermuda. Created in the heat of war by the United States military to service the adjoining WW2 air base, hundreds of men worked feverishly for months to terraform an ancient and beautiful backwater of Bermuda, Almost overnight a community which had lived in relative isolation for hundreds of years was scraped flat and increased in area by millions of tons of dredged seabed fill utterly destroying pristine bays and islets in the desperate need to create a military airbase and port to combat the Axis powers in World War 2.
More than seventy years later we look back on how it got there and why - we see what the passage of so much time has wrought and take a moment to speculate on what the future will bring to Marginal Wharf.
