Otsuchi town suffering great damage (Third day following the earthquake) The Japanese text is followed by an English translation. 津波の被害を受けた岩手県上閉伊郡大槌町(震災3日目 : 昼ごろ) 震災以降、道路が寸断され、釜石市から徒歩で現地に入った撮影スタッフたち。 国道45号線(大槌バイパス)から県道280号線に入り、小鎚川(こづちがわ)にかかる古廟橋(こびょうばし)付近から街の被害状況を捉えた。 津波後に発生した火災により、周囲はガレキのみならず、いたるところに焼け焦げの跡があり、まだ燻っている煙がいくつも立ち上る。 見た目にも引火の範囲は広く、目前の集落から500～600m離れた山林にまで煙が立ち上っている。 付近一面ガレキの山が広がり、倒壊した家屋の付近では、消防隊員らによる捜索救助活動が続けられていた。 大槌港の方向・2kmほど遠方には、小鎚川防潮水門が見える。6m以上の高さがあるこの水門を超えて、巨大な波が街に押し寄せてきたという。 焼け焦げた信号機、根元から折れた電柱、川に水没した車...焦土の様相を呈した街並みの上空で、航空自衛隊のヘリも旋回していた。 [映像中に登場するレポーターは、関西テレビ放送　伊藤真弘 記者] Otsuchi town of Kamihei district, Iwate prefecture suffering damages from the tsunami. (Third day following earthquake, around noon.) Since the occurrence of the earthquake, traffic was cut off on roads. Thus the camera crew entered the area by walk from Kamaishi city. From National route 45 (Otsuchi by-pass), they entered prefectural road 280 and from near Kobyo-bashi bridge over Kozuchi river (West side of Kami-cho area), captured the damage situation of the city. Due to the fire that broke out after the tsunami, the area was in ruins, with remains of the fire everywhere alongside debris. A few strings of smoldering smoke are rising even now. Visually, the area which caught on fire is vast and smoke is rising even within the mountain forest 500-600 meters away from the town before them. Mountains of debris extended all around and firemen near the collapsed homes were continuing their mission of disaster relief and missing person searches. In the direction of Otsuchi bay 2km away, one can see the Kozuchi river floodgate. The giant wave had pushed its way into town climbing over this floodgate that stands at over 6 meters high. A burnt traffic light, a utility pole bent from its roots, and a car submerged in the river...
