(Day of the earthquake) The Japanese text is followed by an English translation. 大地震の直後、千葉県市原市の石油コンビナートで発生した火災の様子を捉えた映像。火災が起きたのは、市原市の五井海岸にある「コスモ石油千葉製油所」。 火災は午後3時半すぎに発生。地震直後、東京都内の様子を上空から撮影していたスタッフは、千葉方面に激しく立ち上る火炎と黒煙を発見し、コンビナートまで接近した(ヘリによる空撮映像 : 午後4時ごろ) 火は、約2時間たってもその勢いを増すばかり。タンクからタンクへと火が燃え移っているためか、時折、爆発のように、火が大きくなるのがわかる(情報カメラによる映像 : 午後5時すぎ) 夜になり、遠く東京方面からも、上空高くまで激しい炎が上がっている様子が確認できる(ヘリによる空撮映像 : 午後6時すぎ) 一向に収まらない火の手のもくもくと吐き出される黒煙が、闇夜でも認識できる(情報カメラによる映像 : 午後7時すぎ) しばらくして、消火活動によるものと思われる、夜空高く飛び上がった放水流の軌跡が捉えられた。火に向けて、激しく放たれる複数の放水流(情報カメラによる映像 : 午後9時すぎ) しかし、それでも火の勢いは失われず、やがて放水流の勢いが弱まり、視界から見えなくなる(情報カメラによる映像 : 午後11時半ごろ) 深夜になり、現場付近の上空から捉えた映像は、猛烈な炎と煙を吹き上げるいくつもの球体(LPGタンク)の姿を鮮明に映し出した(ヘリによる空撮映像 : 3月12日 午前0時すぎ) 結局、この大規模な火災は、その後も延々と続き、発生から11日目にして、ようやく鎮火することとなる。 Footage: Capture of a fire breaking out at a petroleum industrial complex moments after the great earthquake. The fire started at the Chiba branch of Cosmo Oil's oil refinery at the sea of Goi just past 3:30 p.m. Staff who were video recording Tokyo from up in the skies discovered a raging fire over in Chiba, emitting black smoke just after the earthquake. They approached the industrial complex as the fire kept increasing intensity even after two hours. (Helicopter aerial shot, around 4 p.m.) The fire expanded like an explosion from time to time, perhaps due to its flames spreading from one tank to another. (Footage from information camera, past 5 p.m.) At night, one can confirm the fierce fires rising high into the air even from afar in Tokyo. (Helicopter aerial shot, past 6 p.m.) The strength of the fire remains steady and even in the dark of night, the volume of black smoke it emits can be identified. (Footage from information camera, past 7 p.m.) After a while, the camera captures the remains of water discharge rising high into the night sky most likely from fire extinguishing activities. Multiple streams of water are violently discharged to the fire. (Footage from information camera, past 9 p.m.) Nevertheless, the fire's intensity remains strong and eventually the water streams lose their force and disappear from view.
