Minamisoma city suffering great damage (Day after earthquake) The Japanese text is followed by an English translation. (March 12th) Looking down southwestward near Kobama Maruyama from on top of prefectural road 260 on the elevated grounds of Kobama Takishita area of Haramachi district at past 6 a.m., the lowlands have assumed the appearance of a wetland. The flatlands where farm fields presumably used to expand are now covered in mud. Greatly destroyed homes remain standing here and there, and a myriad of debris from homes and cars are scattered about everywhere. Heading up 2km north from this point, approaching into Shidoke Kyozukasawa area of Haramachi district, rubble had drifted and accumulated to areas as far as 500m away from the sea. Even a large tank truck displayed evidence of being washed away by waves. Nearby, even the giant solid transmission tower that supports high voltage power lines is exposing its helpless state, having been bent out of shape due to enormous force. Heading up north even further on the coastline for about 7km, reaching near Kitaizumi/Uragashira area of Haramachi district, (about 500m south of Tohoku Electric Power's Haramachi Thermal Power Plant) the lowlands' surface is immersed in water, a point about 500m away from the sea. Houses with only their rooftops visible on the water surface are witnessed as well. At about 7 a.m. staff head inland to the southwest towards national route 6 and JR Joban line. About 4km southeast from Haranomachi station of Joban line, they come across a train stopped on the tracks. The railway vehicle has been abandoned likely due to evacuation, as there are no signs of crew or passengers. On the other hand, a large crowd of people had gathered at a nearby supermarket on prefectural road 262 (Fresco Kikuchi Higashiharamachi store of Kitahara area, Haramachi district) around merchandise being sold at the storefront. Subsequently, staff head up north 10km onward, to the center of Kashima district. (near Kashima station of JR Joban line) A number of scars from the major earthquake remain within various points of town, such as a giant crack in the asphalt of prefectural road 120 and shops and houses along the street damaged here and there. The historic Kashimamiko Shrine had also suffered damages, such as the upper archway collapsing and its guardian lion statues and lanterns toppled over sideways. -Appearing in the footage are Takao Fujikawa of Fukushima Television(former) and Yuki Sakai of Fukushima Television-
