È un caso molto raro che una carta valore postale dello Stato italiano venga dedicata a un cittadino straniero, sebbene Nightingale sia nata nel nostro Paese (nel 1820) e vi sia tornata grazie a due lunghi viaggi ben documentati (1837/38 e 1847/48), che hanno gettato le basi delle sue conoscenze sociali e scientifiche. Per questo motivo, un apprezzamento ufficiale è pervenuto dall'Ambasciatore Britannico in Italia, Jill Morris, che ha inviato un videomessaggio di vicinanza e affetto rivolto a tutti gli infermieri.
