Nine towns in Eastern Samar are now under a state of calamity due to the devastation caused by Typhoon Ambo (Vongfong). The Provincial Council passed a resolution placing the towns of Jipapad, Arteche, San Policarpo, Oras, Maslog, Dolores, Can-avid, Taft and Sulat under a state of calamity on May 18. Around 34,000 families and 100,000 individuals need help in the rice-producing towns where agricultural damage caused by the typhoon climbed to more than P900 million. "One hundred percent of our households were affected," Mayor Benjamin Ver said in an urgent appeal after flash floods hit his town. "Hindi po namin kayang tustusan ang lahat ng pangangailangan ng mga tao."
