Faith Matters Foundation's video: If you were to boil down the teachings across the traditions to one phrase it would be Wake up

If you were to take all of the teachings, particularly of the contemplatives and the mystics, if you were to boil down all their teachings to one phrase, it would be, "Wake up." That's what it all comes down to across the traditions. I think Jesus would say the same thing: "Wake up, you are asleep." You are asleep to who you are, you're asleep to the kingdom that lives within you, and that's why you can go around the world doing all kinds of batty stuff that is damaging to others. So, I do think that we go through the world in sort of an unconscious or semi-conscious spiritual state, unaware, living without any awareness of who we are and who we could be and who God is. And so everything is about waking up to the fact that if you just nick the surface of anything in life, you're gonna find the face of God. That is this awakening, that is that moment of going, oh my gosh. Everything is brimming with presence. Everything. And to live in a state of that kind of awareness is to live as a saint. To go through the world and to see, I think it was Julian of Norwich who said, "It is the madness of great love to see God in all things."" Hear more from Ian Cron on the Faith Matters podcast!
