@Fixing Over-Mulched Trees -- The Family Plot

There are lots of trees that are volcano mulched -- the mulch is piled high around the trunk. This is bad for the tree. Arborist Jim Volgas shows the correct way to mulch and in the process saves a tree from volcano mulching. Mulch that is to thick will keep oxygen from getting to the roots. Also, mulch piled against the trunk of the tree will start to compost the tree's bark. This will lead to decay and tree death.
