Baldwin-Motion Phase III GT Corvette Mecum Kissimmee Auction 1.12.18 This one-of-a-kind 1969 Chevrolet Corvette is one of the most famous products of the collaboration between Joel Rosen’s Motion Performance in Long Island, New York, and nearby Baldwin Chevrolet. Built to Baldwin Motion Phase III specifications, it was covered by the same guarantee offered by Rosen on all his Phase III cars, namely that it would run 11-second times in the quarter mile. It is one of only 10 Phase III Corvettes built from 1969 through 1971, and it is distinguished by the early Shelby GT side scoops grafted onto the car’s B-pillars, the only time they appeared on a Baldwin Motion Corvette. The key to the car’s awe-inspiring performance is its L71 427/435 HP engine—the matching-numbers powerplant original to the car—that Rosen modified by replacing the Tri-Power carburetion with an Edelbrock intake and Holley 4-barrel, tuning it to approximately 500 HP to ensure the integrity of his 11-second guarantee. In addition to the L71, this car was ordered with a Muncie M21 manual transmission, factory side exhaust, tilt steering column and an AM/FM radio. Motion performed a total of 14 different modifications to the car, including its radical front-end treatment, flared fenders, recessed headlights, fastback rear glass, reversed side vents and custom hood. Firebird tail lights were also substituted, custom side mirrors were installed, and the stock wheels and tires were switched for Ansen slotted wheels and Mickey Thompson rubber. A cover car on both "Corvette Fever" and "Chevy Rumble" magazines, this unique 46,154-mile Balwin Motion Corvette is also featured in writer/historian Marty Schorr’s book on the history of Baldwin Motion.
