FarewellOldFriends's video: Sony MX-510 Field Mixer - Overview

@Sony MX-510 Field Mixer - Overview
Old Friend No. 7 This Sony MX-510 Field Mixer is pretty simple, but I enjoyed using it during the days when I recorded to cassette. I modified the unit to take XLR balanced microphones, with fixed 12V (i.e. low voltage) phantom power on all inputs. This worked fine with my old Adio-Technica ATM-33 mics, which only required 9V phantom power. In modifying the unit, I removed the external DC power input socket - there was no point in using this mixer where mains was available as I had several better alternatives in that situation. The unit uses 8 C-size cells, which is a pretty expensive outlay, but they last a very long time. And there is a pin on the underside of the cover that makes sure the power rocker switch is off whenever the cover is fitted. The foam packing on the inside of the battery compartment lid has degraded and gooey, so would need replacing if the unit were to be used again.
