Short Film Description This Aircraft recognition film is a military film is an AKS Production made in conjunction with the Admiralty and Air Ministry for the directorate of Army Kinematography. The film shows the German Focke Wulf 190 with the RAF emblazoned on it. This film concludes with a mock dogfight between the FW-190 and a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt of the 63rd Fighter Squadron, 9th Air Force. Worth watching Brief History The Focke-Wulf 190 Wurger was a German single-seat, single-engine monoplane fighter designed by Kurt Tank and used by the Luftwaffe during the Second World War. The Fw 190A started flying operationally over France in August 1941 and served in a variety of roles, such as air superiority fighter, strike fighter, ground-attack aircraft, escort fighter serving on all the German fronts: Eastern Front, Western Front, North African Campaign and the Defence of the Reich. The Fw 190 carried 2 × 13 mm (.51 in) synchronized MG 131 machine guns with 475 rounds per gun and 4 × 20 mm MG 151/20 E cannon with 250 rpg, synchronized in the wing roots and 140 rpg free-firing outboard in mid-wing mounts. The Fw 190 was well-liked by its pilots. Some of the Luftwaffe's most successful fighter aces claimed a great many of their kills while flying it. There were over 20,000 Fw 190 including variant Ta152 built between 1941 and 1945. The Fw 190 Retired from service to the Luftwaffe in 1945 and to the Turkish Air Force in 1949. Wurger is the German nickname of this beast of a plane.
