Having bid farewell to @Virtual Railfan 's Whistle Stop Tour, my focus now turned to railfanning for the remainder of the week. On Monday the 11th, I joined a group of fellow railfans staying at the Station Inn to pay a visit to Norfolk Southern's Rose Yard and Juniata Shops in downtown Altoona. Rose Yard was a bust for finding any trains moving, but we couldn't have visited the shops at a better time. Within a few minutes of our arrival, SD70ACu 7254 rolled slowly into view and then inched onto the turntable. One 180-degree turn later, the 7254 left the way it came in to rejoin its comrades in the helper pool, now facing in a better direction. NS has sent plenty of its SD70ACu helpers over the mountain in unusual orientations before, but as luck would have it we were there at the right time when they saw fit to take one out for a spin.
