In 2014, 2014 MU69, Ultima Thule was discovered and was chosen as part of the New Horizons mission. After flyby Pluto, New Horizons was now going to Ultima Thule. And in 2019, it did reach it, turns out, Ultima Thule is a contact binary! It's the first planetsimal, the ancient remain of our Solar System's formation, to have a flyby! It's a space snowman. The big one is Ultima and the other is Thule. During the formation of our Solar System, Ultima and Thule made a gentle collision become the contact binary today. We'll learn about the Solar System's origins from a little cosmic snowman in space.
