Ferroequinology's video: Rare Snow Rollers Blown by Fast-Moving Freight Trains

@Rare "Snow Rollers" Blown by Fast-Moving Freight Trains
Video from December 11, 2016 The first snow of the winter had fallen about a week earlier. When it started to snow really hard, we decided to film some trains in the snow. After a few trains had gone by I noticed that the fast-moving trains were blowing the snow along, and forming "snow rollers." These occur naturally, but are very rare because the weather conditions must be just right for them to form (such as temperature, amount of snowfall and how much it is snowing, type of snow, etc). When this video was filmed there was almost no wind, but the wind from the trains caused them to form anyway.
