Ferroequinology's video: Crossing Malfunction: Train on the Diamond 2017

@Crossing Malfunction: Train on the Diamond (2017)
Filmed on December 9, 2017 It was the first snow of the season. We'd had a bit of a warm fall, but on December 9, the temperature finally plunged below freezing and the first snow fell. I was driving along when the gates went down, and decided to pull over and film the train. By the time I stopped the car and started the camera rolling, the train should have already come. I kept looking back and forth, searching for a train that wasn't there. Clearly something was wrong. I happened to be pointing the camera down the track when a Metra train crossed the Barrington diamond in the distance. (It was Metra's "Operation North Pole" Christmas train, which wasn't on the schedule). Proof that a CN train couldn't possibly be coming. There's actually one section of video with the train crossing the diamond in the background and the lowered gate in the foreground. Then, to my amazement, the gates went up a few seconds later. Is it possible that the train on the diamond somehow triggered the gates? Is there anything the cold or snow could break that would cause this to happen?
