FightFilmsGuy's video: Joe Louis Wrestling Newsreels 1956 Pathe 16mm Transfer

@Joe Louis Wrestling Newsreels 1956 | Pathe & 16mm Transfer
From "Joe Louis in The Twilight Zone" - "In October 1956, a script by Rod Serling was produced and broadcast live on national television. "Requiem For a Heavyweight" told the fictional story of an old and dethroned heavyweight champion, who is broke and past his prime. Despite his best efforts to start a new life, the boxer finally submits to a fixed match as a professional wrestler, and then learns of his manager's betrayal. Released the same year was the movie "The Harder They Fall", a similar story, based on the decline of former Heavyweight Champion Primo Carnera. When the real Carnera retired from boxing, he did become a professional wrestler, but for him it turned out to be a successful career move. Yet the tragedy portrayed in both dramas may also have been inspired by another post boxing transition which had played out only months earlier. On March 16, 1956 in Washington, D.C., Joe Louis, the Former Heavyweight Champion, who had been a genuine hero to many Americans for nearly two decades, debuted that night as a professional wrestler. It had been five years since his last fight, a loss to Rocky Marciano, but Louis was still being hounded by the IRS for unpaid taxes, and was desperate for another payday."
