The Fujairah Fort is a mud brick structure that dates back to the 1670s. One of its towers was damaged by a British bombardment in 1925 and it subsequently fell into a general state of decay. It has however now been restored to its former glory. The fort is considered the oldest structure of its kind in the UAE and has served, in the past, as both a defensive building and home of the emirate's ruling family.
